Antiques of the Orient was formed in 1981 by the late Mr Michael J. Sweet and Ms Julie Yeo to retail Oriental works of art, particularly Chinese porcelain and furniture, and to a lesser extent, maps and prints. We started out in a small shop in the basement of Tanglin Shopping Centre where we remained until 1987, when we relocated to our present premises in a larger unit on the second floor. As time passed, our focus shifted from porcelain and furniture to Antiquarian maps and prints. Today Antiques of the Orient, enjoys an international reputation as specialist purveyors of Antiquarian maps and prints with a focus on Southeast Asia in general and Singapore in particular. Among the other items we deal in are Antiquarian books, maritime charts of Southeast Asia, original 19th century photographs and postcards, Japanese woodblock prints, porcelain - mainly Qing, Oriental works of art and ephemera: old share and bond certificates, Shanghai and Travel posters. Among the other important prints we carry are 16th & 17th century voyages of the Dutch Explorer/Travellers compiled by de Bry, Valentyn and Commelin, 18th Century Engravings of William Hogarth.

The National Heritage Board (NHB) spearheads the appreciation and development of Singapore's cultural, artistic and national heritage. First formed on 1 August 1993, NHB is a statutory board under the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. Our goal is to make heritage enriching, relevant and exciting for all.

NHB operates eight leading heritage institutions. They include the national museums, namely Asian Civilisations Museums (Armenian Street and Empress Place), Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and Singapore History Museum (SHM). The Heritage Conservation Centre  (HCC) and National Archives of Singapore (NAS) are also under NHB’s charge. We also manage the Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM), Singapore's first and only philatelic (postage materials) museum (a subsidiary) and Reflections at Bukit Chandu (RBC), a World War Two Interpretative Centre.
