This book is the culmination of a public forum organised by the Singapore Heritage Society on 17 March 2000, in the light of the decision to demolish the National Library. The event saw a gathering of people from different walks of life sharing experiences and reflecting upon issues of the urban and cultural heritage. The book chronicles the events surrounding the controversy. Proceedings from the forum, including the floor discussion, are included. The book also contains excerpts of the debate from other public media.
